Hey everyone! haha how are you all? my final year exams are in less than 2 weeks time then i'm free!!!! yes 1st year of dental school over, 3 more to go haha hopefully no sub papers otherwise can forget about the hols. unfortunately my holidays are much shorter than all of yours as it is from 30th march to 7th May. then i have special term for 1 month till 8th June then 3 more wks of hols before Year 2 starts in July! sigh cannot complain la....3 more years...

Anyway this is a short update about my D&D i organised for the dental Fac in Jan hhaaha thankfully it went well... there were a few hiccups like my models turning up 1 hr late and one guy happily forgot to bring his clothes! tsk tsk i'm really glad there were many pple to help me otherwise i would have just died hahah... yup the theme was Pink Flamingo cause it was held at the Jurong BirdPark hee hee. Oh yes and just a few days before the dinner there was news about bird flu spreading among all the Asian countries haha i was so worried that those diseased wild birds would fly to S'pore and mingle with the birds at the birdpark then i'd be forced to cancel the whole dinner!!! Thank God that didn't happen haha yup... Thanks Bel for your pink accessories haha unfortunately i only ended up wearing the pink hairband.... oh yeah another thing that caused me much distress was my outfit....i had nothing to wear! i went shopping with Jennifer and Audrey the sunday before and they persuaded me to buy this hot pink toga top. When i showed it to my mum she said i looked trashy! can you believe it my mum calling me trashy?!?!?! anyway she just has this thing against toga tops haha my mum thinks that wearing only 1 sleeve looks terrible and that she rather me not wear any sleeves(ie tube) than wear only 1 sigh... oh well so i ended up just wearing a frilly white shirt and jeans haha. I was the least pink and like 1 of the most casual and i was the stupid organizer! sigh the excuse i gave was that i neede to run around and do stuff so must be comfortable hee hee.... here ae some pictures from the dinner...pple said that they enjoyed themselves but i bet they're just being nice seeing that we put so much effort into it haha oh well... Ok 1st picture is the view of the Flamingo lake from the glass house where we had the dinner... the next 2 are some of my dental friends err...yup thant's abt all i have to go back to my studying again...Amino acid metab awaits!

Hello you all!!! well this post is really for those who... ahem, still can't be bothered to get a gmail account and hence can't read my blog... since what i write here is a snippet of what i write in my blog... *grin* just that all the juicy details are left out, haha you'll have to get a gmail account if you want the full details!!!

ok well we celebrated cny here with a dinner by sing soc and a holborn dinner and a carnival of sorts... so yup yup that's about it really... still a bit sick at the moment, nose and ears blocked and stuffy... sigh what to do what to do... i blame the weather... other than that... not much has been happening... well not much that i can post on this blog anyway!!!

haha but can't wait for waimay and doreen to come!!! oh it's gonna be sooooooo much fun!!!! yyiiippppeeeeeee!!!! so that's all for now...

hellooooo!

since noone else is blogging such that even our tagboard is the only new thing happening on our blog, i decided to write something, even if there hasn't been anything much exciting in my life lately. haha.

tmrw's week 7 in smu! got FA midterm.. which i need to do a lot more revision for. my korean prof is actually pretty nice. he teaches us korean 101 once in a while. hahaha. he's taught us 'hello how are you' and 'i love you' so far. hello is anyong hasae you, or something like that. i can't remember what i love you is haha.
which leads us to the next topic.. vday! who's got dates?! i've got a date with my fa paper ): boohoo. hahaha. after that i'm flying off to perth at 1am! yay yay. does anyone want anything? let me know before i leave! haiyah wed is going to be so sad! not like ac and mg where everyone'll give each other gifts. okay actually i dont know what its going to be like.. but it won't be the same! haha.

ehh update more often k. not just those overseas pple but those in nus and smu too. i think i talk as much to those overseas as those who are still in spore. very pathetic. and i always come to this page when i'm really bored in class so give me something to read, other than the tagboard pls! ok... for the moment.. everyone can read the blog... i haven't made it private yet as some of you still do not have gmail accounts. When you all do, then i will change the settings.

Hello pple... how is everybody??

Haiz Bel.. you post something too!!! anyway where are all the nus and smu pple.. you guys never post anything on the blog anymore... it's always us overseas junkies!!!=P ok let's see what have i been doing... hmm...

not much actually. my life here in london is very boring at the moment.. been trying to catch up with all my holiday work that was suppos to be done.. ahem.. during the hols.. but seriously who has so much time during the hols right.. there you see, that's my point.

oh actually.. i almost set off the fire alarm yesterday.. haha thank goodness i didn't.. it would have been a disaster. all 400 pple would have had to evacuate.. (now that would have gone down well).. anyway what happened was, i was baking apple crumble, but i had a bit of dough left over, so i just made cookies with it.. but then i forgot to watch the oven, and when i did remember to open it, great big clouds of black smoke came billowing out of the oven!!! I swear i had CO poisoning man!!!!

And then it turned quite comical actually.. i ran out of the kitchen screaming for Guan.. and both of us were like choking from the smoke... and i was like, "Shit shit shit!!! Guan how.. HOW!!!"

then we took out the burnt tray from the oven and almost died trying!!! seriously there was so much smoke.. and our kitchen doesn't have a window and we can't open the door cos it would set off the smoke alarm in the hallway. so ya.. Guan was like, "throw the tray in the bin.. throw it now!!!" so i threw it.. and then the bin began smoking... not cool.. so not cool...

so we turned the vent up and evacuated the kitchen... i was so scared the alarm would go off.. haha if you set off the alarm for no good reason you got to pay 20 pounds.. but that's not the worse.. everyone will positively hate you after that, cos they would all have to leave the building and wait in the cold for the firemen to arrive!!!

so yup yup.. i guess that was what i've been doing so far... nothing very spectacular.. just stupid.

this is my first entry for the year.
i know i took for-ever but i have been way busy.
with swimming and school.
started my major classes this year. taking the finance
core right now - which is pretty much hell with
training twice a day.

so i also got a car. 2005 Hyundai Accent.
small car which gets me from one point to another.
can't complain but i kinda like it.
been travelling alot too.

it's been freezing over here too.

POSITIVITY! that's the key! haha. for everyone going back to sch (bel and sara!) and for all those flying back soon! 2006 was a good year friends! even though we're all in different schools, we still met up pretty often and this blog's proven to be very useful hmmm? tuna,i just gotyour msg from msn...the one abt singing bel a birthday song. sorrry. i took a train to seattle straight after school ended (dec14). my train ride was 35 hours. then due to some windstorm in seattle (dec14), the train terminated at oregon and i had to take a shuttle busfrom oregon to seattle..journey took me 3 hours. when i reached my friend's house, there wasn any power supply cos the uprooted trees damaged the power supply cables etc. and cos he stays in the suburban area, his whole area didnt get power until 18th. so i couldnt use the internet for 5 freaking days . i tried calling, but cingular wouldnt let me... i ahve no idea whyy. thats strange cos when i called bel's no., they didnt let me, but when i tried grace's no...they allowed me. so sorrrry.... owell, i'm back safe and sound in sanjose with my family..well my mom is sktill in singapore..so yea, sarah got your msg. dont worrry.

belinda, i reallyhope you had a gerat birthdy dinner with the girls! so lucky lucky lucky... i'm looking forward to seeing you girls in may! i hope it is confirmed...

btww do u all remb who sianny is??! omgg.omg.omg. you know what, she facebooked me and at that moment, i was in seattle. so we met up at UW..university of washington. and yea, just chatted and she gave me a tour of her beautiful sch. like seriously, that sch is soo prettty. reminds me of the movie urban legend...those buildings. actually seattle reminds me of horror movies. cos there are so many of those tallll conical trees..watever u call those trees i forgot...and since the trees are leaves-less...they look very uh...sinister.

i had a very interesting experience on the train from LA to seattle. during dinner, me and my roommate ate at the dinner car on the train. and since there werent enough seats and tables, we had to share this table with this old couple...they are about 70plus years old. the woman used to be a street cop in orange county (OC) and the man, a tractor driver in some farm place. they were taking this train to somewhere in california to visit the woman's step father. so aywayy, she was telling us about her life story..she said she is a very tough woman cos she had been through a lot of adversities. when she was 14years old, she was nearly raped by her step father's brother. heres the gruesome details: in mississipi in the 1950s (imagine thosefamr lands), while she was chopping some woods, that man suddenly came up from behind her and threw her onto the ground. he took out his knife and used it to cut open her jeans, and he also slashed/punched/scratched her right half of her face (it was so bad that she had to undergo cosmetic surgery). he also bit off her left nipples. her whole stomach area had lots of wounds. so when 'penetration was about to occur' -quote her-, she desperately swung her axe across his face and the axe struck the back of his head and klled him instantly. she wasnt charegd with murder cos the wholecommunity thought it was this other man. so that man went to jail 'for' her. as for this step father's brother...it turned out that he was a serial rapist-killer. he killed at least 15 women/girls... and he buried them mostly in his farm. yea... haha and she said her story is just a typcial story in the south during the 1950s. girls getting raped and killed...people getting away with murders. people vanishing all the time. o well, arent we glad we live in the 21st century where plicemen are so much more well-equiped with technology and knowledge to catch criminals. anwyayy she was a street cop tooo

seattle is a nice city. people are friendly yaddayadda...a perfect place to raise a family...but just not my type of city. i was freeezing my butt off at night... cs my friend's place..no power for heaters at night... so basically i was sleeping in 10degreec every night until tue night. i couldnt even sleeep..it was just sooo cold.

anywayy have u guys heard of sudoku??? omyomy my friend just introduced it to me and now i'm sooo hooked on it. it is this math puzzle...something like a cross word puzzle. but instead of alphabets, u use numbers. sooo addictive. and once u get started on it, u cant stop.

owell, dont u think time passs soo quickly? one semester is gone. thats half my freshman year. freshman=partying. which means...i only have one last semester of partyign before i get down to serious work. my finals suck so badly. in america, or specifically at usc, getting less than 3.0 for gpa(grade point average) means u SUCK. and guess what i got... 2.8. freak. i got B- for art of asia and B- for writing140 and B for chemistry. o and i passed hist.thankfully. what sucks most is that for chemistry, an A looked so promising at the start of the year. i had 104/100 for the first mid term. then pledging started, i started skipping lectures and tutorials and basically,eveythin went downhill from there..i skipped the second chem midterm. but i managed to get 80/100 for the third mid term. but but but my finals was appalling... 150/200. btw, A is 93% if i'm not wrong. 70% is C and C when converted to gpa is 2.0. lie wth. AND AND for my art of asia finals... which includes 4 essays in 2 hrs... i scored 90/100. omgg but guss what, my attendance/participation i got 14/40 and my mid terms i got 38/80..haiyoooo as for writing..i'm just glad it wasnt a C+. haiz...

so ive decided to stop playing around and next semester, i'm taking math classes, so that should save my gpa. consistency +time management is the key lesson to learn from this semester. in uni, the level of readings to do is insane. if u just skip one week's worth of reading...the second week is gonna be TOUgh. so imagine skipping 3 mths worth of reading... whoeevr said alevels period is the most stressful time of your life obviously didnt go to university. alevels at least u can catch up in 2months... but in uni, everyday counts. thats so stressful. if u add the stress u feel everyday..thats def more than the stressload from just that short aleevsl period.

pls do not get a fright when im back..ive seriously put on weight i dun even dare get onto the weighing machine..haha.i can imagine the london people losing weight after what sarah told me abt the "bankside" girls and their non-existent diet.and i'll be the only one puttin it all on..to make things worse, i have friends who dun bat a single eyelid when they finish a whole tub of ben and jerry's on their own..and we actually jus had a ben and jerry's eating competition.one tub each, winner's the one who finishes the whole tub..im actually feeling sick now after eating half a tub of cookie dough..and its not the tiny tubs.its the 250 ml ones.sickkk..i have happy pictures of us eating ice cream..but i cant post them bcos i dun see the txt formatting tools..and i dun think im very happy now when i actually feel sick.haha.

note to self: no more ice cream eating competitions, avoid stevenson house 4 kitchen (where everyone is) especially at dinner time, banana for lunch, apple for dinner till i get home, gym twice a day (i wish)..haha

i decided to create a post cos i tagged a few thousand times n its still not working. yup yup. just wanna complain a lil abt how horrible gracie n stephy are. both of u!! abandon me in hall.so terrible can. esp that grace! 1 week nv come back at all. if steph haven told me, i would have thought u died in yr room...again! haha. steph is a lil better. though she abandoned me the last 2 days. n its amazing how EVERYONE is not ard at the same time. haiz. im camping in hall over the weekend as well to try n finish up studying. though tt is quite impossible. :(

Hey hey heyyy! So sorry girls i havent been updating you about what's happening here..Just thought i'll finally make a post.hee hee.Since i havent been in existence for quite a long while..here's jus a really short summary of what ive been doing for the past two months..from earliest to latest..haha.and pics too!!jus got em from my fren but she deleted some..:(
Just one of the fine days we decided to be tourists..somewhere early oct..when it hasnt started getting cold..yet.

Castle!!We thought..ok I thought it was free to public tt day.so we all went up and found that it wasnt..and we spent ages persuading the castle staff to let us in for free..but obviously not!(although they said they would if we were a smaller grp)hee.

These are some of my close frens here in the uni.they're really fun to be around and an absolutely crazy bunch!you'll be seein more of em..haha

Absolutely tourisy things to do: buy scotland caps, pose next to random statue on street and make act-cool unglam poses at starbucks with newly bought caps..

PCCF people! pccf stands for pollock chinese christian fellowship for asians in Edinburgh..although most of em study medicine at the University of Edinburgh.they're mainly malaysians and singaporeans.and this is where i get my share of asians in Edin..haha. Oh and this was taken at a ceilidh we were at..the theme was guys and dolls..most pple were dressed up in feathers, suspenders, black tight, long gloves etc..

Hi everyone!!! haha yay so many of you are coming back in DEC hee hee oh no but i have biochem CA right after the dec hols...on 1st week of Jan i think sigh... oh well so i have 1 more CA next thurs(dental morph) then i'm free!!! hahha but i've been sooooo busy with d&d stuff the past few days. Just deciding on the locations can make me want to yank out all my hair! and i we just just decided to have it at Bird Park hahah the zoo was more expensive so no choice.... but it looks quite nice la overlooking the lake in some glass air conditioned room. Tmr i'm going to call the man again hopefully i didn't hear wrongly today and the cost is correct otherwise i'll jus go jump off the building haha but really it's been extrememly tiresome. haha everyone is sharing abt school life so i shall try(again) to post some pictures haha that's my class photo... and the other one is the group of girls i always hang out with....
everyone seems to be having so much fun!!! esp the england pple...Bev: you are going to spain with your friends????? sooooooo lucky!!!!!! aww man my class was thinking abt going on a trip tog but that is to KL la sniff sniff Barcelona....sighhhhhhhhhh terrible terrible shall not be jealous.... can save money studying in Singapore hahah

heya!!!! How are all my lovely ladies doing?? Haven't spoken to you guys in ages... really miss all of you... ok well here is a quick update of what's been going on... if i type anything that doesn't make sense, ignore it.. i'm seriously sleep deprived..

ok here is goes.. hmm, well as my camera is still spoilt and probably will remain spoilt till i get back.. there won't be any photos.. sigh.. haha then i guess you guys won't get to see the drop dead gorgeous guys i've been out with.. *cheeky grin* haha no lah.. but it's quite frustrating really not to be able to take any photos.. and now my computer has stopped working too.. so hmm... it's gonna be a tricky situation for the next few weeks.. i guess i'll be camping out in the library a lot..

Well so far i've been really busy.. dunno why.. but i have. the time just seems to fly when you're over here.. got my presentation on monday!! yikes!! and it is still undone.. sigh wish me luck.. hopefully i don't muck it up. Saw doreen and jas last weekend.. had lunch in chinatown.. (Jas and doreen, you guys are gonna have to upload the potos seeing as i can't do it) well lunch was good.. had nasi lemak.. not too bad.. haha but i was seriously craving it.. and to doreen and jas: it was wonderful see u!!!!=) Really when you're overseas any familiar face is a good face... can't wait to go to scotland!!! i promise not to disturb you.. i'll bring my books!!=)

Hmm... lets see what else.. not much really.. i go to covent garden market every friday... its just so pretty and interesting.. everytime i go there i feel better.. oh, i've started volunteering at this community project centre where they provide free tution after school hours for underprivileged kids.. i was damn freaked out on my first visit cos this kids come from the poorer parts and they are like really scary.. there was this tiny girl like 12 or something and every other word out of her mouth was F this F that.. but ya one on one they are the sweetest pple.. they really appreciate you helping them..

3 more weeks!!!! i can't wait just 3 more weeks and i'll be hommmmmeeeeeeeee!!!! oh i bought marks and spencer chocolates for you guys.. so we can pig out when i get back!!! anyway that's about it for now.. how did all your exams go? Or are they not done yet? I know horrible me.. but i've just lost track of everything... I'm partly stressed now cos i'm thinking of transfering out of lse.. london is nice and all but lse is just really not my cup of tea.. so ya.. hence my foray into scotland.. i'm going up there to look at some of the universities.. and i'll probably be putting in another application.. so yup yup

weijie's a very smart guy!! always make him teach me fa.. haha

I hope you guys @nus are studyin hard!!! i hope you guys have goood time management...dont be like me! haha anywayy I dont wnat these two weeks to end...cos that would just mean the end of my pledging processs:( it is amazin how the frat makes you get clsoed to people you will neveer, under normal circumstances, mix with. Even though like i dnt think i'm close to alll21 of them..but at least ive gotten the chance to know a handful of them reallly welll. haha we talk abt the most random stuff in the world..like penis boobs and sex and sex positions and how long our faeces is..hahha that was the topic of this reallly long and wild conversation alll10 of us had at the dining facilities at 930pm.

This was taken last night when we just finished our professional event..about how to dress/behave and what to do at networking events. there are a lot a lo a lot of networking events here at usc. seriously...every 3 weeks..there is one maor one where alll the snr exec and ceos and whateevr come to dine with usc kids and exchange name cards. so yea, this workshop taught us how to make ourselves stand out...2 hrs course... ive learnt a lot..cant wait to practice the stufff next semester when i start huntin for internships. i wanna work in downtown LA or beverly hills..where therere so mnay high rise buildings (haha yea i kinda misss the singapore feeling..many tall buildings etc) but first, i need a smester to learn how to drive. np getting a job now when i cant commute!

Hello everyone!

I'm SO happy week 12 in SMU is over! This week was so crazy, it's not funny! My report was due today (friday) but i didn't go to school i don't have class so i got Jolene to print and hand it up for me. Note i hadn't started my essay till Thursday (cos i was busy with all other projects k! not cos i was being lazy haha) so had to work through the night then get up early to complete it. This week was the week of sleep deficiency cos of all the presentations and assignments due. When jolene called me to confirm that she'd put the essay in our prof's tray, i was already on my bed, wanting to catch up on all the sleep i'd missed! hahaha (:

this week was kinda like a rollercoaster. like i thought i was having alternate good and bad days. my AS presentation on tuesday was SO terrible! ): but my BGS presentation on wed was SUPER! (: (: so happy with it. thurs seemed to be bad cos stats is horribly irritating! (slow i saw your msn nick on thurs abt stats killing you. haha i agree!). but then on thurs i got my psych test back and i got 90%! woohoo! actually it's probably not such a big deal cos pple always score very well for psych. but still! haha. friday was alright, just slightly blah cos of the report writing. but after i took my nap, i woke up to watch THE LITTLE MERMAID! my favourite show of all time! (: (: hahaha. super duper nice, you all have the privilege of borrowing it from me if you want hahaha!

Hello girlies!

My friend wants me to spread the msg hahaha. Anyone interested in being santarina? Job starts this coming wed to 24 dec, 40 days, 2-5pm daily. Apparently all you have to do is dress up as santarina and distribute candies to dbs cardholders in orchard. But it's $10 per hour! Which makes it sound very dubious if you ask me. But i'm a good friend so i'm passing the msg along haha. Don't have to make it for all 40 days cos they'll try to accomodate. If you're interested, let me know yeah? Ummm haha.

This week is killer week! Had 2 presentations, one yesterday and today. Handed up a CT essay yesterday. Got a Stats class assignment tmrw and a report due on Fri that i havne't started on yet. Week 12 in SMU rocks! (:

time passes by too quickly, there are christmas decorations along the road outside my school already!

hello girls! i haven't blogged in such a LOOOOONG TIME! heehee...this is gonna be short post cos i need to sleep soon...New York is the most happening place ever! There is always something to do..and the SHOPPING here is OHMYGOODNESS! i am spending so much on shopping..and eating...haha yesterday i went to this really good dim sum place (it can fit 1400 people!) in Chinatown and ate SOOO much and only had to pay US$12 which is pretty reasonable for a meal..the Chinatown here is so big! i need to find my way around properly... New York is pretty easy to get around cos its just streets and avenues, until you get to lower Manhattan, and they have street names, so it gets pretty confusing...on Friday, i went over to Brooklyn to see my friend's school, Pratt Institute of Architecture and Design i think..and then we had a Turkish dinner and after that we went to have the best cheesecake in Brooklyn! it was SOOOO good! i love cheescake! haha! ok i am lazy to write..so i shall post some pictures..

some friends...the girl on the right side of the picture is my roommate..she's from Taiwan but has been living in California for about 10 years, so she's pretty much an American-Chinese already..
this guy is the coolest guy i've ever known! he's a jazz drummer and tonight i went for the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra concert and he was playing in it..and it was SOOOO AMAZING! the jazz people here are crazily good! I love going for jazz concerts..haha the last time, they invited a famous saxophonist to play with the Jazz Orchestra and it was just sublime...the audience went crazy after he played..haha makes me feel like taking jazz lessons!
the guy on the right here is SOOOOO cute..he's a sophomore, jazz bassist..SOOOO cute! he doesn't look good here but in real life he is SOOO cute...hahaha i'm gushing..but i've heard stories about how he sleeps around..so he's just my eyecandy...the thing about being in a music school..most of the cute guys would be gay, and the other straight guys all cannot make it...

this mirror thingy is just outside Rockefeller Centre, one side is concave, the other convex, and we're standing on the convex side so you can see every one on the streets! spot me! haha i'm somewhere on the left..anyway..so the other side, the concave side it facing Rockefeller Centre and if you go far away enough, you will be able to see the entire Rockefeller centre on it..ok the next picture is supposed to be something like that..i was too lazy to walk further..haha..ok i have to sleep now! take care girls and i miss you all!

ALL of sudden, death — or rather, dying — has gotten itself a whole lot of attention.

Because of the Life Before Death campaign, now we have clever ads explaining how the

terminally ill can educate others, a video diary tracking the last days of a terminally-ill patient,

and a photo essay. I know I’m supposed to applaud the efforts of The Singapore Hospice Council and the Lien Foundation for this generally well-regarded “ground-breaking” step.

Instead, the hospice campaign has left an emptiness in the pit of my stomach — because

I think we’ve missed the embarrassing realisation it has brought to the fore.

We’re the problem. That the Hospice Council felt strongly enough to launch

an entire campaign around life before death from disease or

old age — that it needed to be smart to find a way to get through to us, by using the perspective of the dying so that the living make more of an effort — is telling us something

about our own collective disease. Many of today’s Singaporeans live in a cloud of pure makebelieve. Bathed in the glorification of money, status and the pursuit of perfection, we live as if we will never die.

We act as if the spectre of disease, suffering and death will never darken our doorways. We

drive our big cars and express shock at the grey-haired citizens picking through garbage bins to recycle cans and plastic bottles for sale. We ignore the elderly tissue paper sellers scattered throughout our city, as if they’re flies spoiling our Saturday afternoon

spend-fests.

We don’t have time for the debilitated. We are oblivious to the desperation in people’s

eyes, the lines on their faces that didn’t get there because they had to worry about a child’s university fees in the United States. I see you on the streets, dear citizens. Many of you seem to see absolutely nothing at all. Hiding behind your enormous sunglasses,

swerving and avoiding, you revert to learnt reasoning: The poor are a small percentage

in Singapore; if you give to one you must give to all.

Where did this sickening apathy come from, that pervades Singaporean life? Decades of

hand-holding and public messaging were supposed to teach us to be civil citizens — no spitting, shoving, littering and abusing (animals, children, maids, the elderly and each other).

Yet, the hand holding itself seems to have eradicated otherwise instinctive actions and reactions towards human existence and suffering — that should come effortlessly from deep within.

Why are our sick and dying tucked away and forgotten? Why can’t we talk about it? Why are

our elderly suffering? We can highlight the feelgood stories; the cash-rich pocket

money funds; the top 10 people who give their best to those who have the least; and the kindness of strangers, cab drivers and foreign workers.

We can talk of how our society has changed, grown up even.

But this hospice campaign has thrown our big, bad secret out into the open. We’re great at

talking the talk. We’re able to give and successfully so — witness the vulgarity of $500-a-plate charity dinners required to fete a room full of tycoons for the sake of their charitable contributions.

We’re excellent at being stoic and seemingly strong. But it sadly appears that we are

missing something huge in our social makeup: We are unable to feel.

That’s our big Singaporean shame. We are unable to feel when we pick a frying pan up to

hit a 18-year-old who’s left her backwater village to earn a living washing your toilet and your

baby’s backside. We are unable to feel when a friend, desperate to talk about their mastectomy but not knowing how, cries on our cold shoulder at the unfairness of it all.

We are unable to feel, when the old man approaches us in a crowded hawker centre asking

for a couple of bucks. We are unable to feel when the 75-year-old jumps off her corridor

and ends her lonely existence. We are unable to feel when coddled, bratty children

slap their hapless maids, without parental rebuff.

We can cry at Idol concerts, we can scream for joy at an appearance by a MediaCorp artiste.

But have you ever stopped to have a conversation with the buskers in the underpass?

We can devote pages to Singapore’s new breed of entrepreneurs, sportsmen, stars, and retail giants.

But have you noticed that tall man in the market, in his shabby but clean clothes? His

three kids are bathing in the public toilet, and his life’s possessions are gathered in the plastic bag on his wrist. We are devoted to talking about the Queen of Caldecott,

to the need to foster heroes and adventure seekers. But can you feel the heroic

pride and pain and also see the pretty in someone whose life is coming to an end?

Oh, we are busy, busy. Living lives we can’t afford, forgetting our parents in old age homes

— and boy, are we relieved that there are places they can “go to die”.

We don’t seem to wish to acknowledge that suffering, disease and death are universal experiences. We avoid the emotions, the displays of affection. Always, we are distant — onlookers, like the drivers on our highways slowing down to peek at an accident wreck before driving away. We walk tall and proud down our streets. But, rarely it seems,

do we touch a soul.

okkkkk i'm abt to failmy history classs. semester is coming to a close..(omggg there goes my first semester at usc/LA rarrrrrrrrrr). and i had a long serious talk with my teaching asst abt trying to pass this damn class. sighhh rrally scared that i wont be able to pass. i dont exactly want to pay fpr this class again next semester. such a waste of time. sighsighhh... but on the bright side...started this weekend with a bang--friday night, my frat social partyyyy. one helll of a goood party. me and the social chair wnet to buy all the foood at 1030am-1230pm. then we wantd to have some ice cream cos it was so hot. but she accidentally made a wrong turn and we eneded up on a freeway to pasadena. so instead of this goood ice cream place-pink berry, we ended up travelling for 20mins to get 21 choices ( another damn gooodice cream place... basically three places to eat ice cream when u ae in LA- pink berry, 21 choices and cold stone).thne we shopped a little, i bought lots of make up and alll. she got..food. haha. then we rushed back to her aprt wheere we cooked, got ready for the partyyyy :) huge successs i'm so happpy cos the actives love it!

ok ive got an essay due tomorrow 9am. so i need to start on it soon. but you know, when u have a laptop with internet connection in front of you, it is so easy to get distracted. so thats why i'm here even though i'm complaining that i dont have time to go off campus etc. ahahaha

anywayy, my weekend was goood. i spent sat cleaning my room. i got myself an awesome set of com speakers for 145usd. i love it! it is so prettty...harman kardon soundstiks i think. yea wanted creative but..haha i dont know why i ended up getting this. never ask a student who might declare marketing as their senior concentration for advice. cos they are so goood at selling thwir opinions to you. sheesh. but not complaining. i' m satisfied.

sat night i went to my friends apt to help with the decoration. this coming fri my pledge class is throwing a v huge party. total damage: est 2000usd. yeps and the theme- angel and devil. goshhhh getting my costumn is such a PAIN. thankfully LA has so many shops selling all kinds of stufffff... got my devil costumn but i hope it doesnt make me look toooo kidddy hahahahahaa. cos uh... well uh my size... is like a kid. so i have no choice but to get a kiddy one cos it fits the best. hazi... just need to put loads of make up and i have to stop eating cos it bares my midriff. hmmmm but nothing slutty cos ive got long pants. got a little tail and horns tooo :) ahaha

then at night i went to another of my pledge bro's house to... tlak shit and just hang out. in the end westayed from 12midnight till 3am and it was late. so we slept over. ive gotta start getting into the habit of bringing an extra toothbrush and sleeping clothes in my bag..every weekend i end up sleeping over at people's apts... haha. sorrry no pics mans cos my camera is spoit and ive sent it to chicago..it is supposed to come back to me tomorrow :) yay in time for social night...which is our fri party. but i do have pics...pics are just with this guy cos he has the same camera as me so i like taking pics using his camera haha and i'm lazy to get it from him. haha...soon soon.

halfway through pledging processs.getting v v vbusy. i love my pledge class :). i uh got loads of work to do (whats new) i need to start attneding my chem classes on a regular basis. i'm thinking of selling my stanford football tics...but stanford isnt a goood team..cant make much money. but o welll lets see which seats i get theni can decide the price from there. no way am i selling myucla tics. :) people waietd 3 years but still dont get it..i got it in my very first semester at usc! sweeet

how is everybody doing?? haven't heard from all you guys in a while.. email me ya... swjlim@gmail.com... i know i know.. i should be emailing all of you.. but i seriously have no time.. dunno why i'm so busy tho.. haven't been doing much, but the day juz seems to go like that!! anyway if i type rubbish today.. ignore me... i haven't been getting enough sleep..

on sunday night i went to bed at 4 in the morning cos i was rushing a stats exercise due the nxt day.. haha at least i got a 'very good' on it.. although i didn't really know what i was doing.. *grin* i guess it juz shows that no one else knows what they are doing.. which is comforting..

last night i cooked meatballs.. cos me and guan (my singapore flatmate) decided that we don't see the other 2 boys in our flat enough... so yup we designated mondays as flat nite... where we all get together and eat dinner. and last night was my turn to cook... well it turned out to be quite a farce actually... cos alex, who was really sweet about it had this presentation thing by a law firm he had to attend.. so he came back really late and tipsy from all the white wine he had drunk... and dan forgot all about our dinner!!!! Can you beat that.. oh well.. haha but alex was really funny... he came back like at 9.30pm but he still ate this huge plate of the pasta... and he sat down with guan and me to talk.. but he was so tipsy he couldn't follow what we were saying.. it was quite funny actually..

well in the end it wasn't a total waste cos we invited the other singaporeans in high holborn to come and eat my 'gourmet' meatballs... (eh i seasoned the damn things over night ok.. see i put in so much effort!) haha but yup yup..

anyway... i'm still trying to upload photos.. but it isn't really happening.. so still no luck.. haven't been taking many of them.. but the video of bevin's party is damn funny.. will show you guys when i get back.. well i've gotta run.. suppose to be doing math now.. sigh.. you all take care.

heheh this was a quiz that i took cos i was bored. can try it too!

i had quite a smooth sailing week! things just felt quite easy for some reason. have to enjoy it cos final project presentation and reports deadlines are coming soon! i tried writing an amalytical skills essay today and it was TORTUROUS!
i just started a new module this term: Creative Thinking! with Margaret Chan.. you know the actress from Masters of the Sea that kept saying 'i'll crush you like a cockroach'? haha. it was really fun! even though i'm like the least creative person on earth! at the end of class we had to split into mini grps and perform a song item. and cos my grp consisted of all girls, we just HAD to pretend to be a girl band (we sang Britney Spear's Oops i did it again!! in a really bimbo/ flirty way. as much as we cld anyway hahah) AND A BOY BAND. so we were all hiphop-ish and like 'wazzup. we're so cool mann. whatever.' !! whatever image i tried to form in smu for the last 8 weeks disappeared into thin air in 2 minutes i tell you. hahaha. when i talked to my friend on msn later that night, he started the conversation with 'yoyoyo'. SIGH! haha but we laughed quite a lot and was really fun! even though class participation is still quite a big stressful part. another gd thing abt the class is alot of my classmates are from my other classes and they're all nice pple so we can get along. yay! (:

thought i cld have a super long weekend cos i was careful to not schedule any meetings on friday and monday (my no-class days)so i cld holiday from friday to tuesday! BUT i've got this SIFE club meeting to go for on monday night and my creative thinking class is visiting an art museum on tuesday (hari raya public holiday! heh for those who are away and didnt know). i absent-mindedly forgot abt my meeting so i arranged the council dinner on monday haha. haven't seen my council in ages so hopefully i'll be able to rush down aftermy meeting! heh excuse me for rambling.

hihihi im blogging from blockB TV lounge cos stephyy is watching her beloved prison break and im studying here in the lounge to keep her company!what a nice friend i am right hees.
its so lonely here tonight.my hall's having some dance production bash at some club that ive never heard before -- bumblebee haha so all the dancers (which means ALLLL of my neighbours INCLUDING tunatan) have gone to HAVOCCC tonight:/ on a thursday night ok.hahaha.i saw pretty tunatan before she left.she did her own makeup heehee and she wore oh so sexy clothes!hahaha ok dont kill me tuna!she wore a nice long flow-y skirt to school today and steph called her 'aunty' for all the times tuna calls her aunty for wearing formal clothes to school!haha oh my.im always caught in between the two squabling kids.TSK TSK
school's been alright.im kinda busy these days cos of training for interhall games im playing tennis for my hall and christina is playing softball so we're always busy but at least we exercise haha dont get fat from all the studying!

sarah limmmmi willl reply your email sooon... and everyone else tooo... crapp last few days have been insane. so so so much work to do. on ave, i get 5 hrs of sleep. last night, 3hrs. just sooo mnay essays... right now it is 2am and i'm hoping that i can get at least one hr of sleep cos class starst at 8am. but i need a break..which is why i'm typing this right now. no actually i just wanted to share some goood news.... ok here it is- for competitive home games (football), alllll students have a chance of entering a lottery for tics to each of the game. competitive home games this year- ucla and notredame. and away games- stanford. these threee.need lottery cos the demand exceeds supply. so i entered the lottery... and GUESSSSSSSSSSSS WHATTTTTTT i got ucla and stanford. yayyy but i dont wanna tell so many people abt it cos i really want the notredame tics tooo. notredame resuts will be out on nov 1st..keeping finfers crossed.

ucla vs usc...shc rivalry...just like ac vs rj. long long hist. ticks can cost up to 1000usd. i wante to selll mine...but i figured, i should be part of the atmosphere :) waimay is one happppy girllll... i'm starting to enjoy watching footballll gamescos i understand 3/4 of the rules!!!!!!!! ucla suck this yr though... but so does usc. everyone keeps telling me last yrs team was 6846846977003 times better. pledging in my frat is getting more demanding... i'm getting a shitload of work..i'm so behind my readings :( :(, i skipped a mid term cos i couldnt take it... omgggg whoveer said uni is gonna be so easy?!?

heyy girls!

jasmine here (: how's evryone? so sorry i haven't been updating.. i know its kind of late but i just want to say thank you all for coming to send me off at the airport last month and thank you for all the notes and gifts(: you all made leaving s'pore so difficult uknow!): till today i still read them and they make me cry): i pin them on my board! my friends say i have pretty friends hahaa

life in london is quite nice and i'm getting used to it. havent really been out at night much, only once to a boat party for s'poreans and m'sians. we took the boat down river thames. so romantic right (too bad jay wasnt there hahaha) super cold tho heh. i met boris there! and a few more pri school friends and Mdm Leow's son haha it was really nice..like a reunion. my friend from s'pore came over to visit too so it made me less homesick (: and i played poker once haha it was quite fun we should play too! heh

school has been alright, there's alot of work tho..and alot of chemistry in pharmacy! i miss Mr Heng and Mr p.Cheong ): didnt really join any ccas but i went for frisbee once it was pretty fun!(im really bad at it tho) but the weather is starting to feel cold, maybe i'll go for ballet next week LOL

i've been going around and looking for a church too with my friends. the churches here are nice and all so different.. going to hillsongs this sunday! haha a pastor from s'pore is coming to preach..
been blessed with a few close friends here in my hall,my two closest girlfriends are mich and vivian, from s'pore. grace knows vivian! small world.(: usually hangout with a few more s'poreans and m'sians too. OH and there's a taiwanese girl who stays in the same estate as jaychou! she sees him sometimes! i told her to take me back when she goes home hahaha. in school there are two girls, from bangladesh and from hk(cooks very well!) they are really nice and cute..sometimes abit crazy tho.haha i'll take pics and show u all soon!

so what's been happening over here?? well let's see.. in my first 2 weeks i have successfully managed to fall behind in all my lessons bar one.. well for math and stats its really not my fault.. the lecturers aren't very good and it's not my fault the tb is shitty too.. seriously i try ok.. it's not like i'm skiving off or anything.. but you can't expect to get a chicken from an egg that hasn't been fertilised right?? *grin* weird analogy.. but you get the point..

Well for econs i admit it is definitely more my fault.. the lecturer is good but i juz haven't had the time to sit an digest all he's been saying.. and guess who i blame. My math and stats classes!! Seriously it takes all my energy trying to figure out what i'm doing in those classes..

so yup yup.. oh i finally decided to do spanish.. ok i didn't really decide.. it was decided for me cos i want to join e choir.. and since they all fell on the same day.. ya i couldn't possibly be going from 9am to 7.30 in the evening right?

anyway nothing much has been happening... oh we did celebrate the birthday of one of the guys in my hall.. we did it at 1am in the morning!!!! It was quite sweet actually... the holborn girls baked a apple pie in the afternoon.. and then at night the guys took hm out for poker and dinner and at 1 am we all barged into his room and shouted surprise!!!

haha but knowing guys he didn't get off the hook so easily.. they made wear this underwear we had all signed over his jeans and go down to the bar... he then had to ask a random girl to sign it as well and then we made him go into e girls bathroom where one of us was waiting with the pie... haha and then we all sat down at 2am in the morning to have pie with ice cream!!!! i'm gonna get fat man!!!

so yup yup... the nxt day all of us were bleary eyed.. haha but it was fun.. must show u guys the video.. damn funny.. oh and we also went to this food market on saturday... damn interesting.. they have all sorts of things.. like ostrich burger and stuff..

anyway it's dinner time.. so i gotta run.. miss you guys loads..

hahaha omgg someone just sent these. ok these pics were taken during the bigbro/lilbro night. ok below, we were actin as three lil pigs for the actives. yea, instead of blowing the house away...the wolf is supposed to blow the pins away. yes, part of the requirement for pledgers is to wear that lil pin everywhere... except for the four 's'- sleep, shower, sports and...sex. hahaha so yea thats the big version of our pin. in reality, the pin is only 1.5cm big. damn easy to lose it. i like the back of my castaway costumn... but i couldnt get a pic of it :(

o ya did i tell you that last weekend was a crazy one for me. after my horrible hangover on fri night, i woke up at 8am on sat morn for tailgate before football game uwash against usc... but didnt go to the match cos i was just tooo dizzy. at night we had a sleepover at this guys house(that was our this weeks challenge). pics soon...waiting for the lazy people to send them to me. hurhurrr. we didnt sleep of course... ended up talking, doing random stufff but we didnt drink :) clean fun.

so we talkd and laughed till 3am and i slept from 330am-430am. pretty cool. nobody made out or anything despite like..guys sleeping with girls on same beds. yea i actually slept with someone of the opp sex on the same bed. i was trying to avoid it by taking one side of the bed and lettign this other girl take the middle and the guy take the other side. but that girl just got up and lft this space between me and him.and stupid guy dont know how to keep to his side of the bed and i, didnt know that this girl left so basically when the guy rolled over to myside, i though it was the girl and...blergh it was weird the next morn (but i just pretended nothin ahppened. act ignorant even though it was weird haha cos uh of other stufff on that thur night too). anywayy we woke up at 430. get ready to go back to sch by 5am. then go to downtown LAhomeless shelter to feed the homeless at 6am... crazyyy day. 6am-10am..feeding the homelesss... good experience i must say :)

then 11am-4pm..set up washing car place and washed cars at beverly hills. omggg so many ucla alumni, current kids were yelling at us... like fcuk usc, go to hell blahblahhh like chill mans. football is football. fundraising is fundraising. sheesh. cos we took out this huge usc banner to gte the attention of our alumnis to support us. we made a lot of mney btw despite not charging anyone and relying solely on donations. we got people giving from 2 bucks (fcukkkthatshittt) to 50usd... seriously, washing 30over cars nonstop when u only got 1hr of sleeep is soooooo exhaustinggg. in the end, we surprised ourselves by collecting 584 in 4 hrs.

so anywayyy getting cars to drive into the patrol station to get their cars washed is tough. realllly.. screaming, shouting, taking initiative to walk up to cars and like tell them eveything in one breathe before the red light turns green and they have no chance to listen to you...when u only have 1 hr of sleeep..crazyyyy crap alrights... it is 2am. i have a class at 8am... byeeeeeeee o waitttt

biz students: how come u guys take 4 years to study biz adm whereas here at usc, basicallly people only take 3 years cos the first yr is just a whole load of nonsensical GEs hahaha. like what kind of courses do u guys take?? in usc this is our basic core requirements before we declare emphasise or in my case, start acct classes:

Heya darlings!!!!

How is everybody... missing you guys loads.. ok anyway haven't blogged in a while so yup yup thought i'd drop you all a note just to tell you guys i'm still alive... hmm but not too well i guess. I was running a mild fever yesterday and have been down with this persistent cold for ages... oh well hopefully it will go soon.

anyway my first two weeks here... well they were okay i guess.. met some really nice pple and some... hmm.. well i think you can guess.. but no names. i'm in like a dilemma now.. i can't decide whether or not to take italian or spanish... i know it's like not very important... but for the life of me i just can't decide...

o well, goood times. now the down side of college. my work... i got a B+ for art of asia..thankfully even though i wanted an A to pull upmy gpa. a B for hist essay...like omggg i was better than ave in class for hist essay. anwyayyy... i wrote that ist paper from 12midnight to4am and went to class at 8am. haha i was crawling to class in the cold...
anw, today i didnt go for the uwash footballl homegame cos i had a major hangover. for the first time in waimay;s history, i puked cos of so many shots... yes we played a drinking game at my friends apt and they were so mean to me and i was so unlucky. we played some indian something game..like lowest no. will have to take a shot. so anyway, tawseef called me from wisconsin and for that, i'm so grateful for him cos i had an excuse to get away from the game. so anwyay going down the lift to my friend's apt, i puked alllll over the lift cos i couldnt help it. crapp so embarrassing. and i had to wake up at 8am today for tailgate before football game. mandatory for us pledgebros.

anwyayy i'm feeling so like crap. visited my friend at parksdie (the best dorm in the whole uni but it is like a 15mins walk from ym dorm), slept at her place for 2hours ahhahaa... what a nice friend...shes the one from czech rep.

ok yay, my friend is taking me out for pie in an hour time. best pie in town. he better not let me down. anywayy we have a sleepover at this guys house and then wake up at 5am to feed the homeless (thats our community service) and then carwash in beverly hills... grrrrrrrrrrr i need to studystudystudy....i hope i will get at least a B for my mid terms...really hoping...ok byebyeee guys, i hope u guys are studying hard in sch ;) waimayyyy (haha one day i will take pic of people studying to give u an idea of how hard this partygoers of usc study...seriously... haha. but it would be so awkward to take pic of people studying huh)

haven been blogging for a long long time.. decided to drop by n blog after gracie reminded me abt the blog..haha...been really busy this week..sch is so disgusting...bel dun worry k...im in the same sinking boat as u...i just took 1 business module n it is so going to kill me..totally cant grasp the concept very well...it is just going to pull my overall grade down :(. disgusting...n according to my seniors, chem eng pple must score well in the 1st 2 sem cos yr overall grade will just keep dropping in yr 2,3,4 due to the very disgustingly smart pple. thankfully i din choose to study business adm.. hate writing reports...disgusting... n no thanks to my chem eng frens who are studying so hard that i nv tot anyone can study any harder... n who said jc is the worst time ? uni is 100 times worser! n i tot everything will slow down after this week...no...realise i have got 2 more projects coming up which have to be handed in 2 weeks time... + presentation... goodness...presentation is ok i think...but writing at report is the most horrible thing anyone can subject a person to. bel, i think i will just melt n die if i went to SMU. yup yup...enough of the grumbling...r we still meeting this sat? i dun mind..though i can only meet after 7.. have got a test tt evening... we can go to town..dunno if the SMU pple would mind since u guys r there everyday....yup yup.. maybe we can celebrate amanda's brithday as well...u guys haven celebrate it yet right? or wat abt the NYDC lookalike at citylink? but must go early cos i think its really pack during dinner time... yup yup..got to study my material sci test which is in the evening...tata guys...hang in there everyone..the hols is in abt 2 months time!! :)

Long time no see! We had a whole flurry of entries last week. but i couldn't add to it cos i was sick last week.. sick with GREY'S ANATOMY!!! hahaha. seriously. ian seah lent me the dvd so i kept watching non-stop, its seriously my favourite show. i love love love it! (:
BUT my precious show made me neglect work and normal living cos i kept thinking abt it! like i'd think abt in class and smile to myself HAHA. sigh. my mum said i'm no better than those aunties who obsess abt the korean dramas and have no life. sad but true. so i made myself return the dvd on sunday. which made me very sad. so i prayed, took a nap, and when i woke up, i didn't feel the urge to watch it anymore! i was cured (: heheh. you all think i'm exaggerating but i'm serious k. boohoo. i still love it deep deep though. haha.

School's been pretty alright for me. Belinda my heart goes out to you, and even more so because i know that will be the kind of life i'm going to live next semester! gah. Haven't heard from all you NUS pple! Sarah's the person i talked to most recently and she's in the UK!! haha. so let's have dinner this week! cos smu has our recess week next week. okay? HEY GIRLS i havent blogged here in the longest time so sorry!
BUT its the hols now yayy:) been trying to do some studying but havent been very productive the last 4days and im going out tmrrr!which leaves..the weekend..but then sat morning im meeting celeste chai for breakfast..shes back from sydney for 2weeks!then ive got physio tutorial meeting in the afternoon..at national library my goodness so freaking far so if any of you SMU peeps happen to be in school come find me ok!and they say we dont have projects in me*d!grrr.we're given this passage abt the patient's history,blood count,symptoms etc and we have to present our findings like what kinda anaemia he's suffering from and stuff!goshh AND it counts towards our finals so gross right and its so hard sighh ohh jiayou steph and christina!they have exams soon so poor thingg!!
so anyway.we sent off our dear bevy on monday night.could really see the numbers dwindling as more and more of our friends left!only 4 of us were there at the airport but of course bevy being miss popular had a lot of rj and other friends to send her off AND chris' whole family!how sweet is that!heehee:D

ok so here goes my account of the past 3 days in lse... i know ONLY 3 DAYS... geez it feels like ages... well didn't do much on sunday... on monday i can't actually remember doing anything either actually... went for this welcome thingy in my hall but it was so bloody noisy i couldn't hear what anybody was saying... so haha i guess you can say it was a not the best use of time..

on tuesday i met a few other singaporeans... oh inez guess what.. Guan Sin lives like in the flat nxt to mine!! can you believe that? small world huh? we met like at 9 in e morning cos the damn smoke alarm went off.. apparently they test it every monday morning... retarded or what. Well i met her in the hall way of her flat... cos all the piggies in my flat didn't bother to come out of their rooms... so i had to go to the nxt flat and see what they were doing..

anyway my flat has like 4 americans here on a transfer programme for a year.. and the guys are bloody noisy!!!! seriously... they clatter about at 3, 4 am in the morning... idiots... haha but the girls are really nice... and in the flat nxt to mine there is this damn hot french guy... i swear he bears like a strong resemblance to orlando bloom. oh well... wasted lah he has a girl friend... but still he is really sweet... one of the guys i hang out more with...

anyway there is this massive party tonight.. which i guess i'll go for.. i know i know i don't sound the most enthu... but i'm so jet lagged and these clubbing things get a bit pointless after a while cos even though you meet loads of people you don't remember any of them in the morning.. well i shall not complain anymore... on the whole its been pretty ok.. still settling in.. will update you guys!! sorry won't be emailing much for these 2 weeks... tons to do and not a lot of time!! you guys take care.. miss you all loads!!

so anyway, life's been busy for all of us i see? sigh i've been practising accounting the whole day! i feel like i'm about to faint. i've got an accounting quiz coming up next friday, and a communications assignment due on monday, and a business law presentation on tuesday. the list goes on..

that day i was complaining about how jc was so terrible and i felt like it was the worst i could ever get. then my friend strongly opposed and said 'a levels is like a fat boy running 2.4km! just walk 2.3km, then sprint the last hundred metres.' .. 'but uni is a constant 100m sprint! every semester is a race, then the break would be totally enjoying. until the next term would be another sprint again..' so tell me, which is worse off :\

okay i should go sleep now.. i've got class at eightthirty in the morning, followed by three project meetings till night-time! :\

it's been ages since my last post yet nothing much has happened haha that shows how boring my life is... nothing like waimay's glamorous life in california, or doreen's scenic new country.... haha ya fun is something i haven't been having in a long time hee hee. last night i went to jj's apt with a whole bunch of other singaporeans and i met lipingg :)and dingren haha... we hardly meet cos one, both live in parkside which is like some faraway land on campus and two, both are in a diff major. she invited me to her friend's apt partyy which was a few doors away from jj's.

anywayy, those are just some random pics. first one is with my roommate, we were standing outside this rich man's driveway in redondo beach. haha next one is with my roommate's friend...yea he looks so weak, but he could actually carry me without much difficulties. can u believe it. i weigh like a tonne. ahahah next one is this floormate called jeffrey from new jersey. i posted a pic of him cos he is the biggest irritant on my floor. yes. he annoys me like crazy as u can tell... and he is a pimp. hahahaha he is half hispanic and half scotish. waht a combination...v funny but v v v horny too. always asking people to scratch his ass for him. haha.next is this really freaking hot canadian that i met at some greek party. here, my friend invited him back to our dorm and he is pictured smoking weed yes... ive tried that heh...but before u jump to any conclusions abt me... no ,i hate the smell of weed. i just took one puff and that was my very first and LAST time smoking weed. weed is really popular in US and actually, i dont see anything wrong with it cos reallly, it just makes u high/happy and thats all. ok next pic is lan, my czech republic friend who is a viet national and my hiromi from tokyo..both are from my writing and hist classes. lan is actually my v good friend in sch... too bad she lives at the opp end of campus!

Hey everyone!!
missing me already?? I really miss you guys!! and I cant seem to get access to our blog. The only way I can read your entries are by signing in. haha. Oh well, at least you can finally hear from me now..hehe. Anyway, everything's fine with me, just getting used to uni life and trying to get started on my self study which i have to do ALOT..I must really stop using my self study periods as breaks but the computers in the library are so tempting and it's the only time i can talk to you guys on msn because of the 7 hr time difference. Blehh..
Well, i guess i have more or less settled in, found the christian union, which is quite a cool bunch of pple with quite alot of cool activities. People here are really friendly too, which really helps in gettin me settled in. Sadly, there are very few chinese here, not to mention Singaporeans, besides my lecturer who is from Singapore. Haha. But i guess being here you would want to meet the locals and other people around the world more than your own "kind"..heh. And I have met quite alot of them cos my school has more international than local students. But my whole block is full of indian boys! argh..hehe..I don't mean to be racist.but you know..haha.Anyway, so far I have been on a grub crawl organised by the christian union, where we actually went from house to house eating home cooked food prepared by the students themselves..and a day tour for international students..So so far so good, and I really hope it gets better..God has been really good to me!

my favourite girls!

haha sorry i haven't been blogging! anyway, i really hate school now. grr everything's so stressful, it's really alot alot alot worse than jc. i'm in the smu jazz band programme and i had my first lesson last saturday. it was soooo scary. as in like everyone's like super pro and they nominated me as the band arranger so now i've gotta arrange the music and stuff, i really feel overwhelmed. urghs.

and like classes are super on the ball. everyone's just raising their hands and asking questions all the time, i'm immensely worried about my class participation points really. and i hate biz law! it's okay actually, until you start examining cases, it gets very very confusing. and everything to me, is very subjective la. which is so ironical considering it's supposed to be law.

and also, i'm gonna miss our dear friends doreen and jas terribly!! :( yepp sigh our mg gang's getting sooo tiny. but nvm we must keep meeting up and stuff k! and we still haven't celebrated amanda's birthday! haha. so anyway, see you girls at the airport tomorrow for those who are sending jas off! :)

Hello!!

Long time no blog. haha. i've had such an exhausting week. actually when you think abt it i guess i haven't done that many things but the presentation that i had to do for class on wed was so time-consuming and stressful! maybe cos it was the 1st presentation of my uni life. hehheh. we were all so relieved when we finished!

ohh but i think i was quite tired from bidding for my extra module too. WAH i really cant stand it! sara and i kept discussing how much to bid for one of our classes. in the end we bid pretty low so we didnt get it after so much discussion haha. but its okay cos both of us got our 1st choice courses! yay. BUT not getting that class meant that we wasted 3 precious hours on a lovely monday morning attending a class that we weren't given in the end. i'm not so concerned abt sleep. but cos of this class, i had to leave early from my last REW session with the p1 barker boys!!!

haha. i've been teaching a class of ac barker p1 kids for the past 6 weeks and they're seriously SUPER CUTE! i must tell you the stories next time. sometimes they make SO MUCH noise that my 2 other friends that take the class with me will be at a loss cos we have no clue on what to do! other times we have to stop the lesson cos they say really really adorable thigns and we'd just laugh and laugh. okay la tell you all more stories abt them. esp from my last day! ): but for now, pictures of the cute kids!

hello everybody! I am blogging about life in New York! NY is so fun! There's always things to do! I've been here for exactly one week and we've had splendid orientation! There aren't OGs, or OGLs..we do everything sort of as a whole big group of freshies, and if we have competitions, it's by floors (so your entire floor in your dorm is your group). There are 2 RAs (Resident Assistants) per floor and they are the people you go to when you have any qns (sort of like an OGL lah). My 2 RAs are the coolest people around! HAHA! every floor has a theme, and ours is the 'Models floor'. When you step out of the lift, there's this big poster with lots of ads of big brands like Gucci, Prada, CK etc with models on it..and somewhere on the poster it says '2006's hottest fashion designers' followed by all the names of the people on our floor! COOL HUH?? and outside each of our doors, they put up one ad with our names on it..my room's brand is BCBG..HAHAHA! one of our RAs is gay (and proud of it but he's really nice!) and he decided that NY is like fashion heaven so our floor must be the models floor..

Orientation has been really fun..we went on a free cruise with free FOOD along the river, and passed by the statue of liberty at night! it was nice! but my friend said it's nicer in the day when you can see the scenery around it..on our first night, we had an ice-cream social in the lounge of our dorm, with a special performance by some jazz students who call themselves the Sliq Soul brothers and they're really really really good! I was so impressed! the brass players beat Singapore brass players hands down man! there were people dancing and eating ice-cream! haha! 2 nights ago it was Movie Night and they played MI3 in the lounge and tonight its Movie Night again! this time its V for Vendetta...we had a scavenger hunt which took us all over NY today..and my floor won! yay! the gay RA told us 'i'm like really competitive, and i want to win!' he made us like run to all the destinations! ZZZ last night we went for a local restaurant tour, where they brought us to see all the good food around our area, and we finally ate at this Italian restaurant and food was quite good! we've also been to see the Lion King and Stomp, and tomoro we're going to this jazz club in Soho (i think) called the Village Vanguard and supposedly many students go there..but i think i won't go cos its quite late...other than that, we've had meetings and stuff and placement tests! bleaugh..i have like 3 placement tests tomoro..so retarded..i wanna test out of those, then i can do other courses..like learn FRENCH! haha!

the people here are very nice and friendly too..but like Wai May said, i don't want to make too many casual acquaintances...I have made some friends who i think will be close friends though..my 2 closest friends (one is my rommate) here are christians and that's such a blessing! we go church-hopping together till we've found a nice one which we like..we went to this church today and it was so solemn! and the pastor was very boring =pp haha he was speaking in a monotone and not really focusing on the topic..i was like falling asleep and i felt so bad for sleeping in front of him =S

lastly, SHOPPING! the shopping here is WOWOWOWOWOWOW! there are of course superduper high end stuff along 5th Avenue, but sometimes some places have discount racks because they want to bring in the new designs, and these discounted items are really discounted! and if you go into shopping centres like Macy's (the world's largest department store!) they ALSO have discount racks..like you can get a pair of Cole Haan capris for 30US! they have lots of stuff like that..i can't wait to go visit other good shopping places! food here is expensive though, plus you have to give TIPS! and sometimes the service is not very good so you don't feel like giving them tips but you have to....

HEY everyone!!! wow it's been ages since i last posted something...haha well as you know, 1 week of school has passed for me and i'm already super tired... My timetable is 8 to 5.30 from monday to thursday and we have an early day on friday( 8 to 5) yay!!! 1/2 and hr earlier!!! woohoo...sigh ok la somtimes the lecturer may end earlier like at 4 so not so bad. and on some days i have 2 hr breaks... oh well but i heard that when we actually go out into the working world it is not so bad...
Waimay: that's sounds like quite a lot of frens what... but they sound like a reallly interesting mix of people from extremely diverse backgrounds. haha yes LA definitely sounds like an expensive place to live in...If i ever go i'll stay with you k haaha then have more $ for shopping and food!!! so lucky waimay!!! have so many hot guys to look at sigh can't find a single one in dentistry. eh take some pictures and post them!!! haha i want to see...

hihihi everyone. i dont even know whats going on in singapore since you people are so busy with alll your smu/dentistry/medicine life..tsk. bear some thoughts for the lonely me in california who has nothing better to do except hop from one blog to another...so keeep me occupied mans. i dont like to keep visiting my school webbie and make more changes to my timetable (thats what i do when i'm bored. look for more classes and lchange my schedule...)

o yes, this is what i'm doing for first sem: some class abt acct stufff, writing class, hist class abt war and america, geog class abt natural disasters ...thats abt it.

okkk yes, you all must be wondering whyy i'm complaining that i have so much time but no time to update this blog. cos you see, i cant seem to access the internet from my dorm cos theres just soooooo much admin shitt to do (reallly! i'm not kidding. getting internet connection was my no. one prioritywhen i moved into my dorm... btw, i havent even unpacked my clothes from the baggage...and since thurr till now, i stillllllllllllllll dont have internet cos it is just so complicated. you might think that getting a lan wire would solve all my probs, omggg u are severely mistaken. once u plug that stupid wire into the right places, u have to 'register' ur laptop and blahblahblahblah...theres where all the rubbish comes in. so frustrating) so because of alll these nonsense, i cant use my laptop. and so, i have to go to the library, and use their stifff keyboards to type emails and alll. so yea... i dont like to type a lot.

anw. LA is a very expensive city. if u want to come here for a long hol, becareful, money just flow out of your pocket like nobody;s business. parking fees in downtown LA for 3hrs can go up to 18USD, parking in beverlyhills/westwoood for first 20mins can cost you 8uSD. parking in U*SC (a university in the worse part of LA) is 7 USD a day. so doesnt matter if you are going into the sch for an hour, it will still cost you 7 friggin bucks. renting a car is gonna cost you an atomic bomb. and you cant travel around LA w/o a car... a car is a necessity cos cabs are insanely expensive...the meters justr move very quickly. then theres foood. omggg... one slice of pizza at a fooodcourt cost me 4USD. sheesh. foood court btw. FOODCOURT...the cost of an ave meal for 2 people: 45USD... that includes tip. hotel... omggggg omggg unless you dont intend to live until 45years old (at least), you have to fork out at least 100plus USD a night for a hotel room. then plus your fun sight-seeing places like LA's very own disneyland or universal studios or sixslfags or waltdisney concert hall and goodnessknowswhatotherplacesthereareinLA... $$$$$$$$$$$

U*SC... hmmm what can i say except the int students orientaltion is pitiful. so boringgg. i skipped most of the prog. people are... aye basically i kinda like the indians only. they are sooooo hilarious i telll you. and it is not because they intend to be funny. but it is just the things they do and say. i'm not racist la. i sincerely enjoy their company. hahahaha.... there are def a lot of above ave looking people here. reallly. dont think LA is where all the slim and welll-toned body people live... there are a lot a lot of obese people. but just within U*SC, yes, what you see in OC is true. and cos in my dorm, theres a mixture of guys and girls living on the same floor, so when you walk to the toilet, you can always spot a half naked guy walking to the toilet or back from the toilet and they are hot. hahaha seriously, ive never seen so many hot guys in my life. like every 10mins, this sufer looking dude will walk past you... regardless of where you are..in library/cafeteria/dorm/walking across the courtyard/student health centre...etc. there are a lot of bitchy girls around tooo. haha... cant wait for the whole chunk of them to move into sorority houses next year. heh. no la... they are nice, but i dont think i want to be their friends??? these type of people come and go. people here are generalllty nice, they acknowledge you, help you when you want... only thing is that, you cant form meaningful friendships with them. but thats ok..cos not all americans are like that.

my room mate is one perfect exception. shes sooooo niceee. omggg... by american standard, shes a hardcore nerd, but to me, shes a perfectly normal student who knows how to strike a balance between having fun and fulfilling her responsibilities as a student. so thats great. we hang out quite often and we both have similiar opinions. like we want classes to start soon cos both of us dont like to try to make friends. hahahahahaha i know. i dont like to go up to someone and intro myself. thats just stupid. i'd rather u come up to me and do that. hahaha so at this monent, i can count the no. of friends i have made so far. hahaha this vietnamese girl (who studied in czech republic alll her life), my dear roommate, this indian girl who is here for her masters, this hongkong guy, this korean guy called david (but all his life, he studied in mexico. ahhaha), this singaporean..omggg ive got so much to say abt her. she was from mg but left in sec 2 tostudy in hongkong...i think if u guys see her pic in the mg yearboook, u alll will confirm recognise her. her name is charmaine. this turkey guy (crap forgot his name..i think al), this shanghai guy (jordan, doing graduate studied), this korean girl called...shit i forgot, and this asian american girl called... uhm ashley or something... hmmm thats more or less it. i mean there are two other guys my roommate intro-ed... uhm this volleyball player called chris and this guy from chicago called west. there are a lot of hi and bye friends la... i cant remb their names. but when i see them around, yea... i will greeet them. thats the thing abt a big uni, u hardly see your new friends. haha... reallly. if they are not in the same sch (i.e the biz sch or communication sch etc), it is very hard to maintain those friendships.

U*SC is def a partyyy sch. wed-pizza party. thur- massive frat/sorority parties. woahhh... i didnt go la.cos i didnt know untiol this asian guy told me but then he told me aft i took a nice warm bath and was all clean and alll. soyea. wasnt in the mood to dress up and watch people get

helloo!

been a long time since i last posted something. i've been doing absolutely nothing the last few days! today esp! just eat, nap, read, comp, tv the whole day long! thats why i dont feel like sleeping now cos i'll be too piggish hahaha. so i've decided to post some ipho pictures for the non-ipho folks to have a look! i uploaded so much more but lousy blogger refuses to show them grrr!

this is us during july camp, before ipho began! taken in the hall 12 dining hall where we had all our meals. every meal was a buffet! which explains why i'm always hungry nowadays ):

the girls again on bbq night! we played this wasabi game where you had to eat bread spread either with kaya or wasabi and you had to guess who from the opp team kena-ed the wasabi. so its basically an acting game. haha. quite silly. we had an ac vs rj battle. and we were more right than them so we should have won k! sigh haha.

inez!!! when are we getting our pay for ipho? haha i need to shopshop for uni stufff! haaha. my boss advised me to own a full suit just in case i may need it for presentation. cos she said during her time at usc, she had to wear suits to do presentations. o welll since laundry was havin 70%-80% off, i decided to get a nicee, sharp, welll cut suit! yayyy hahaha i got a dress tooo... total damage: 314+197. original price: 1048+659. yeps. worth it right? anw, i need to get another winter jacket cos guess what, my leather one had microorganisms growing on it. how disgusting rightt. omg i will never own any leather clothes anymore. tooo high maintenance. madness.

anw, i want a furrrrry, snow white jacket. hahaha. but aye, i guesss i'l go shop over in states la.

anw, this weekend is my last weekend in singaporeeeee for this year. how sad is that? cos next weekend (first week of aug) i have to go up to malaysia to bid my relatives farewelll and yes, to collect well wishes and ahem some cash...HAHAHA but thats not the main reason for looking forward to that trip of course. o welll, no more chinese new year for the next 4 years. crap. i'm so gonna lose touch of my chinese heritage. i cant even speak a sentence of proper cantonese, i dont know when what day is for what special chinese festival... i cant remb the last time i held a chinese lattern... crapppp. i should join some china club there. theres a singapore club so i guess there should be a china club mans.

Hey hey! where is everyone???? This blog is going to die soon heh... well k yesterday inez, sarah and i went to watch pirates of the Caribbean 2!!! haha bel and tuna tan were supposed to join us but i guess they were way too tired to wake up... yup the show was quite nice but i didn't understand some parts as i couldnt hear what the characters were saying( when the dvd comes out i may watch it again but with subtitles this time haha) and it was a tad too long too hee hee. Inez hadd to rush off after the show for her driving so sarah and i had lunch at taka food court. As i had my dentistry og outing( yes silly right haha this is before the camp which is on fri) at 5pm in town i decided to go to the library by myself to kill time... along the way i dropped in at kino and delighted to find out that penguin published some books that i really wanted to buy haha that means i can get my aunt to but it for me at 30 or 40% discount! hee hee and when i went to the library i also found some books that i really wanted to read. My dinner was...ok. i made new friends with the girls in my group( all from rj) heh though i didn't talk to the 2 boys. We went to cafe cartel for dinner but i was rather disappointed with the food. My Philadelphia cheesesteak was nothing like the ones i had in US and was messy to eat...hopefully the one at Billy Bombers is better haha i'll try it one day. Oh no!!! i just realised that school is starting in abt 1 & 1/2 weeks!!! (for NUS people) sigh we're supposed to move in to eusoff next friday on the 28th (hint hint: very special day hahha) then oreintation starts for the hall and i think for dentistry we have stuff lined up too. busy busy...oh and i found out that the dentistry timetable is diffeerent from other faculties...like the year 2s have already started school(they started on the 3rd of July!) hopefully i'll still be able to meet up with you all heh and not be having hols while you are all mugging for exams and vice versa.... we must meet up soon k...prefably somtime next week cause i have camp this fri to sunday. Hello people!!!!!

Haven't heard from all you guys in a while.. anyway my exams are over!!!!!!!!!!!!! yippeeee..... hope i didn't do badly... well just came back from london a few days ago... graduation ceremony tmr... finally... it feels like i've been here in malvern for ages. kinda sad to leave though... it's such a nice and happy place. haha i doubt i'll wake up to squirrels and pigeons outside my window scurrying around. really no joke!! I got this huge tree outside my window and every morning all the birds sorta gather there and u can see squirrels gathering nuts and all that.. haha juz like a scene from a book or something..

anyway i'll be back this sunday!!!! can't wait can't wait... laksa here i come!!!! *grin* i've been craving it for ages!!!

ok let me update you on my eventful week in london... you won't believe what happened. I got in on thursady right.. went shopping in the afternoon.. and then on my way back to the hostel i got pick pockted on the train!!! all my money and cards got stolen and i was stranded on the middle of london with no money and only a tube ticket... not funny.. so i called my mum and woke her up like at 3am... so yup yup had to call the bank and all that. then that night the bloody fire alarm went off!!! can you imagine.. i was so disoriented. so we all had to evict the building and stand outside to wait for the firemen to come and check the place.

and guess what set off the alarm... go on guess... this darn girl that was half drunk was smoking!!!!!!! at 2am in the morning. I could kick her man!!!

Well friday and saturday were ok... no probs there... my friends and I watched a gay parade on saturday... we thought it was some football thing... cos they blocked the whole of oxford street... and all the signs were saying things like euro pride and all that... haha silly right. So yup it was a real eye opener... wish i had brought my camera with me. There were like the down right transverstites and then there were like the gays in the police forces and the air force and all that and lesbians that were old enough to be my grandma...

so yup yup... then on sunday since the weather was so nice... we decided to go to the park... haha and here it gets really interesting... (note to jas... never go to hyde park on your own!!) I was waiting for my friends on a bench reading and this guys strolls past. he was saying something like, 'beautiful.. beautiful.' i thought he was talking about the scenery right... then he comes up to me and says, 'do you mind if i sit here.' and i wasn't really paying attention cos i was reading a book and the bench was so long, i thought he was just being polite. so of course i said i don't mind.

Then he started talking to me... and in england, it's quite common for people to strike up random conversations with the people around them.. so being the polite person i am i replied... haha and juz like the movies he began sitting closer and closer... seriously at that point i was getting a little freaked out. Then suddenly he asks me, so do you have a boyfriend. thinking back i should have said i was waiting for him... but i was so mortified by then i said no.

Then he asked how old i was and i said 19 and he was shocked. he was like oh then you're still in college... duh!!!! how old do i look... 30!!!!!!!?????? haha then he said... well i guess i'm too old for you then huh?? Like bloody hell you are... oppss sorry for the swearing... he was old enough to be my father!!! given he didn't look bad... but still!!! Chee ko pek alert!!!!! So before he left he said.. come give me a hug before i go!!!! can you believe it!!!! i wanted to run. so i sorta patted him on the shoulder and here it gets really movieish... he pulled me into a hug... ok then i started to struggle and pulled back. and he stil had the cheek to say, ' you really like cuddles huh... wish i could sit here all day with you.' DISGUSTING DISGUSTING DISGUSTING.

well after that you can imagine... i washed like 3 times that day... yew... anyway nothing much happened for the rest of my trip... but seriously london is not safe if you're alone... kinda amazing cos i always thought it was not too bad since i've been there so often.. haha i guess its just not my week. anyway i'll see you guys soon!!

anw, just got back from day 1 of the july camp. unlike everyone, i got a double rooom. bleh. sometimes i prefer a single rooom cos i dont particularly fancy having such intimate contact with someone i dont even know in my life.

goshh i hate sharing roooms hahahah. basicallly i'm writing this cos i hate sharing roooms. maybe i'm not used to it.

went shopping tonight and yayyy i bought two dresses!!! i'm so happppy. i mean, i didnt really need two. cos i could use my prom dresss but i dont exactly want to stick out like a sore thumb. so yea. and yea, i saw two realllly nice ones but couldnt decide which one to get and since my mom was feeeling reallly generous, i got both. but they are gonna be deducted from my last month's pay anw mans. im a person with a conscience. haha i just hope they are dinner-ish enough. cos they are not like sparkling with beads and etc and neither are they chiffon or satin material. ayee but it is not like we are attending a balll huh. not even a wedding dinner right? hahaha crapppp i'm juts tryin to convince myself that i didnt make a mistake by getting it hahahahaha.
